Walking along the scintillating ocean off Kennedy Town on a blistering summer’s day, one might find themselves thirsting for a refreshing beverage or a filling snack to complement the warm coastal winds. Fortunately, you’re at the right place. Situated along the Praya facing a glittering sea with a magnificent view of the Ting Kau bridge, Fish and Chick offers a casual, unique and utterly compelling dining experience. Walking into this rustic and chic eatery, you will be greeted by amicable staff who will stop at nothing to offer you the one of the best gastronomical experiences in the area. This rustic and chic eatery, serving a fantastic menu that offers just what its name implies, a dazzling assortment of fish, chicken, and classic desserts. The décor is what you would expect from a typical fisherman’s- wharf type restaurant, and offers an uncomplicated, yet appealing vibe. Furthermore, the open-door entrance of the restaurants allows for a delicate sea breeze – how relaxing! Going there for lunch, one’s mouth will water at the plethora of options on the menu. For starters, we ordered a fisherman’s basket, which came with a large portion of fried seafood – from cuttlefish to shrimps, they were hot and crispy on the outside, but inside hid a firework show of flavor. However, the most special part were the beautiful and dainty crab croquettes that were seasoned and fried to perfection. For mains, we had beer-battered fish and chips, with the signature Rotisserie whole chicken and a side of mushrooms. Although offered a lavish array of fish types to go in the fish and chips, we settled with Monkfish for its mild yet tantalizing flavor, which almost tastes fluffy and soft in the mouth. We did not regret it a single bit – no sooner had we ordered than the colossal slab of fish and overflowing portion of chips reach our table. The beer really comes through in the fish, and is neither too overpowering nor too weak, and the seasoning perfectly harmonizes with the sweetness of the fish. It really is something out of this world.
Then, the chicken arrived and we were instantly wowed by how perfectly it was cooked. The chicken, though crispy on the outside, was shockingly luscious on the inside, and it was cooked evenly, probably the result of cooking in the massive Rotisserie oven out in the open in the restaurant. The buttery flavor really balances out that harsh banging of garlic in the background, and the same could be said for the mushrooms that came along with it. However, there were times when the breast felt a bit tough, and I hope they can fix that. We went in famished and came out as satisfied as two boys having worked through the entire morning can be. This restaurant will run you in the mid-range of prices – this meal for two cost around $400 and perhaps even more if you are to pay this place a visit at night. But let me tell you – every second you spend on the seaside with your mouth-watering plate of seafood is worth every single dollar you spend.
