The Vietnam Woods- Authentic Vietnamese Food in Bustling Wan Chai

The Vietnam Woods or 悅木  is bestowed with a notable mention in  Michelin Guide 2017 for Hong Kong under Vietamese restaurants . Best known for the traditional cooking, with a modern presentation and interior, like most Vietnamese restaurants, the deluxe beef noodles soup is the main dish. Nonetheless, the various Vietnamese dishes on the menu, especially the extensive selection of appetisers and lunch menu never fails to impress. According to the Michelin Guide: "The latest branch from Lo Chiu is perhaps the most comfortable, with its attractive facade, modern interior, cosy seating and chic, white private room. I found this restaurant through a the monthly recommendations in a local magazine and have since visited around 5 times, especially during special events such as family birthdays! :)

I ordered the Mango Salad for the appetisers and the Beef Pho Cooked Well Done for the main course.

Needless to say, the Mango Salad lived up to its word. The mango itself was bland and plain on the inside, but with a bite the sweet and sour juices came flowing into my mouthwatering tastebuds. I think the main speciality of the salad, was however, the dressing. The dressing was a pungent combination of bitterness, sweetness, saltiness, sourness and spiciness in one. All elements of the traditional Vietnamese cuisine were present. It was delectable. Truly one of the most memorable salads I have ever had. I would have wished that the cold shrimps on the side matched the texture and flavor of the salad and dressing, but other than that it was excellent.

The Beef Pho was even better. Out of all the Vietnamese restaurants I have eaten in, I think The Vietnam Woods stirs up the tastiest Beef Pho. It is the perfect combination of chewy rice noodles, tender beef strips and flavorful soup cooked to perfection. The soup comes wth a large piece of radish at the bottom, which I believe gives it that unique kick of flavor. Topped with the crunchiness of the bean sprouts and herbal fusion, there is no better mix of flavors you could ask for. It is Vietnam's national dish at its greatest. What's even better is the portion size, which is well worth the money you're paying for.

Personally this is one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong and it is a must-visit if you are looking for authentic Viatnamese food.
