Michelin Guide Street-Style Malaysian Food

Yes Yes. It's another Hainan Chicken Rice Set coming up...if you've read my Grand Hyatt Grand Cafe Blog Entry. But who doesn't love a good Chicken Rice :)

Café Malacca has been a steady competitor in the MICHELIN Guide from 2014-2015 has an infamous reputation of being the go-to spot for home-sick Malaysians and Singaporeans living in Hong Kong seeking their homey delicacies. In a semi-casual and semi-formal atmosphere, the restaurant's food literally brings you to the hawker stalls of Southeast Asia to enjoy the originality of street-style food. Over the past year, numerous people (especially those from a Southeast Asian descent) have recommended Café Malacca as a must-try. "The Bak Kut Teh and the Hainan Chicken Rice are to die for".

Conveniently located in the ever-modernising and youthful Kennedy Town, Café Malacca embodies the spirit of youthfulness using a wide array of aromatic spices, herbs and fresh ingredients that leaves even unadventurous eaters with a salivating mouth. The Head Chef Sunny Tse has prior experience working at the Island Shangri-La for over 20 years and is very very much prepared. He even travelled to Malaysia and Singapore for an extended amount of time just to experience and learn the tastes and methods of preparation in order to delivery similar results with a twist.

The appetisers are a great way to start a meal.
The Fried Carrot Cake is absolutely delicious. With a kick of spiciness, the mix of scallions and crispy garlic creates a delicious mixture of textures and flavors.
The Satay is tender and the peanut sauce really complements the chewiness and the seasoning.

Chicken Rice
Now comes the Chicken Rice. Having been to Singapore and tried the classic Chicken Rice there, I can say that the Café Malacca version definitely embodies it perfectly. You can taste the freshness and chicken flavors with a hint of soy sauce to give it that extra flavor. The chicken skin is cool and ideal to eat with the tender meat, especially paired with the different sauces. The rice isn't overpowering in flavor and balances with the richness of the soup. It really is a delicious and filling meal to eat.

The Kaya Toast was sweet and warm and a delectable way to finish off the meal. With a hint of coconut and the warm toasty bread, it was really enjoyable.
Café Malacca is a wonderful restaurant in a wonderful setting with wonderful food. Please check it out if you have the chance.
